Shoreline Trail (Lory State Park III) - In A Colorado Minute (Week 235)

Shoreline Trail (Lory State Park III) - In A Colorado Minute (Week 235)

Shoreline Trail in Lory State Park, near Fort Collins, Colorado, is a 1-mile trail leading to Horsetooth Reservoir, which flanks the park on its eastern side.

While this is a very short trail, what you get to see is very diverse: the rolling meadow of Horsetooth Mountain Park, red cliffs, the hogbacks near the water, wildflowers (so beautiful even in autumn), barren trees damaged from fire next to lush green conifer trees and (at this time of year) trees letting go of their last yellow leaves... and then finally the reservoir itself with the vista of the eastern range and the Great Plains beyond. And on your way back you get a great view of Arthur's Rock, which I covered in the video Arthur's Rock (Lory State Park (II) - In A Colorado Minute (Week 206).

We had discovered this trail the day before and knowing that wind was in the forecast and all the autumn foliage would be gone soon, Whiskey and I ventured out there the next day... during a 25-mile an hour storm. Hope the images of Whiskey's ears flopping in the wind make up for the sometimes unsteady image caused by the wind rattling my tripod.

As you might notice in the shots with the bright blue sky, there is some dust. It's actually inside the lens so I can't clean it. If you want to help me get a new dust-free lens, please make a donation via the tip jar below your favorite of my videos on Vimeo or via the PayPal link on the right side of this website.

Peak-to-Peak Highway - In A Colorado Minute (Week 234)

Peak-to-Peak Highway - In A Colorado Minute (Week 234)

The Peak-to-Peak Highway in Colorado is the oldest Scenic Byway in the United States of America, established in 1918. That's quite a claim. So I was thrilled for us to take this drive south from Estes Park to Black Hawk during the height of fall foliage season. Thank you, Margaret, girlfriend of Drew, for this wonderful recommendation.

The drive is actually not along just one highway but changes from CO Highway 7 to CO Highway 72 and then to CO Highway 119 (north to south).

One of the turns, we completely missed (and I couldn't find it in the footage later either), which led us to continue down 7 for a while and get some beautiful footage of the South St. Vrain Canyon, which you can watch HERE. We then found our way back through a charming little town on the St. Vrain Creek, which wasn't even listed on my map.

My critical mind was a bit frustrated that because we only had time to drive the 55-mile (about 80-minute) drive facing mostly south and west before it got dark, which meant we were mostly driving into the sun instead of seeing the vistas lit up by the sun from behind. But watching the finished video, I actually appreciate the accidental feeling of "driving towards the setting sun". I'd like to take and film this drive again with the sun in my back going north, just to see the difference. Maybe it would be a fun winter drive... because winter is definitely coming...

This is an edited version of all the footage from the drive. I plan to release the full version later.

New Pornographers - "Dancehall Domine" (#MusicMonday)

A new song by the New Pornographers?

A danceable dance-theme song that makes me want to dance?

A film-nerd video full of iconic film images and conventions?

All this makes this video, directed and produced by Leblanc + Cudmore, for the song "Dancehall Domine" by the New Pornographers a perfect all-Canadian Music Monday post.

Enough said, go dance!

San Francisco Bay Area (California) - In Another Minute (Week 233)

San Francisco Bay Area (California) - In Another Minute (Week 233)

The San Francisco Bay Area (or simply, Bay Area) in California consists of the cities San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose. And I love it!

It's what I suspected ever since I saw my dad's photos from 1977 when he and his friend Manfred reached San Francisco on their road trip along Route 66 from New York City. Over the years, more and more of my friends from Florida and Brooklyn had moved there and I'd been dreaming about visiting or even moving to the Bay Area myself. This week, I finally got to go... and yes, I'd move there in a heartbeat.

During my to-short visit, I got to enjoy incredible hospitality, outstanding food and drinks, inspiring conversations, and so many stunning and anticipated sights.

Most of the places in this video, my dear friend Katie Ainslie and I got to experience thanks to Josh Mitchell, who was the Best Man in the previous week's wedding and video: Catskills Wedding (New York) - In Another Minute (Week 232). Being on a serious mission to see as much of San Francisco in a single day as humanly possible (on hardly any sleep because of the previous Berkeley/Oakland night that started at Revival Kitchen...), he took us all over town by various modes of transportation - just to dip in here and there and get some shots. A champagne toast on Tony and Rochelle's balcony overlooking the city with the Golden Gate Bridge during golden hour was a definite highlight... and the dinner at Nopalito with more friends, Mezcal + bug powder was well deserved after that day. As desert, Kevin surprised me with making another dream come true: driving us across the Golden Gate Bridge!

Places in the video: Oakland home and BART station, view of San Francisco from Tank Hill (just below Twin Peaks), cable cars along California (the Powell cars weren't running), Blue Angels over the Marina (it was Fleet Week), Union Square, Grace Cathedral in Nob Hill, the Castro, street art in the Mission, a peaceful burger place in Haight-Ashbury, the Painted Ladies and sunset sky in Alamo Square... and finally the drive across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Thank you, Josh, you are a rock star! Thank you, Katie and Kevin, for the icing on top (including taking me to Brown Sugar Kitchen on my last day for my very first Chicken + Waffles)!

Another huge thank you goes to Katie, Sonia and Aaron who were amazing hosts and made me feel immediately at home. Beware, I might come back soon...

Last, but not least, a heartfelt thank you to everyone, who met me along the way and made this one of the most wonderful and memorable weekends. I'm so grateful to have all of you in my life!

While in California, I also had an amazing day with old and new friends exploring all that Sonoma has to offer. But that will be another video for another week...

Oh, and I don't know the guy making the silly face to the camera. But if you do that to me, you will be published.

Catskills Wedding (New York) - In Another Minute (Week 232)

Catskills Wedding (New York) - In Another Minute (Week 232)

The Catskills (aka Catskill Mountains) in Upstate New York are a beautiful and very popular destination for people from New York City. Especially stunning in autumn with its colorful fall foliage, it was the perfect backdrop for the Catskills wedding of dear Brooklyn friends Alex and Adele this past weekend at Mt. Tremper Arts, near Phoenicia, New York.

Congratulations, Alex and Adele! We all are so fortunate to know you and wish you all the happiness you can handle.

I cannot describe the joy I experienced spending a weekend with some of my best friends in such a beautiful place... and the pleasure of a romantic weekend with my husband in a little cabin in the hills.

Do yourself a favor and get away for the weekend and spend time with those you love and whom love you.

If you'd like to spend more time watching my Brooklyn friends, check out these videos:

On a technical note: yes, I certainly do need a new on-the-go camera that shoots in 1080p and does well under dark lighting. Unfortunately, I have my mind set on the updated version of my Panasonic Lumix, which shoots in European PAL. Currently saving money for it. South St. Vrain Canyon - In A Colorado Minute (Week 231)

South St. Vrain Canyon - In A Colorado Minute (Week 231)

The fast drive through stunning South St. Vrain Canyon (along South St. Vrain Creek aka St. Vrain River) was actually an accidental one. When we drove (and filmed) the Peak-to-Peak Scenic Byway in all its autumn glory this past week, we missed the turn from Colorado Highway 7 onto Highway 72 and discovered this little gem. Not accidental was the stop along the road to give our dog Whiskey the chance to catch some water, which seems to be here current favorite thing.

If you want to see what the world looks like from Whiskey's perspective, please check out last weeks video, shot by Whiskey herself with a GoPro: Reservoir Dog (Whiskey Business 1) – In A Colorado Minute (Week 230)

If you want to see the Peak-to-Peak Scenic Byway video, please check back in over the next few weeks. It may or may not be next week's video because tomorrow we're traveling to the Catskills in Upstate New York... where I might just shoot a new video.
